The Dobos Family - Celebrating 50 Years Together in Kitty Hawk

One of my favorite parts of being an Outer Banks family photographer is getting to meet families who are celebrating life's biggest milestones. The Dobos family was visiting the Outer Banks to celebrate an incredible achievement: their grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary. It was an honor to capture such a meaningful occasion during their very first family photography session with me.

We met at their beach house just north of the Kitty Hawk Pier on a beautiful overcast evening. The cloud cover gave us wonderfully soft light that is perfect for portraits, and the weather made for a comfortable session from beginning to end.

Because the grandparents had some mobility challenges, we started the session right on the deck overlooking the beach. One of the things I always tell families is that every session is customized around what works best for them. There is no reason to make anyone uncomfortable when we can create beautiful portraits exactly where they are. We were able to photograph the entire family together, the grandparents by themselves, and several generations before anyone needed to make the walk down to the sand.

Once we finished on the deck, the rest of the family headed to the beach where we continued with individual family portraits, grandchildren, cousins, siblings, and even a few fun senior-style portraits. I always enjoy mixing traditional family photographs with images that show each person's personality, and this family made that easy. There were plenty of laughs, playful moments, and genuine smiles throughout the evening.

Fifty years of marriage is an incredible milestone, and it was easy to see the love and respect this family has for their grandparents. Having everyone together in one place made the celebration even more special, and I hope these photographs become keepsakes that will be enjoyed for many years to come.
