The Cambron Family – Friends Who Vacation Together in Corolla

Some family traditions start because they have been passed down for years. Others begin with a simple idea that turns out to be a really good one.

This was my first time photographing the Cambron family and their friends in Corolla, and I loved the story behind their Outer Banks vacation. Technically, this group was made up of three separate families. Their kids all went to the same preschool, the parents became friends along the way, and they decided to bring everyone together for a vacation on the Outer Banks.

I have to say, I think they may be onto something.

With ten people and three families, we had plenty of combinations to work with during their Corolla family photography session. We photographed the entire group together, each individual family, the kids, and plenty of smaller combinations along the way. And with this crew, it didn't take much to get some genuine laughter and personality in front of the camera.

One of the things I enjoy about photographing groups like this is that the pictures become about more than what everyone looked like on vacation. They capture friendships too. Years from now, those kids will be able to look back and remember the families they grew up alongside and the summers they spent together.

We finished the evening down by the ocean, and they even broke out matching OBX shirts for a final group photo. It was a perfect way to wrap up their first session with me and hopefully the first of many vacations together.

I've photographed a lot of traditions over the years as an Outer Banks family photographer, but it's especially fun getting to photograph one right at the beginning.

I hope this crew keeps coming back to Corolla together. I have a feeling these photographs are going to become more valuable to all three families with every passing year.
