The Carnegie Family – A Duck Family Photography Tradition

One of my favorite parts of being an Outer Banks family photographer is seeing the same families come back year after year. This was at least my third year photographing the Carnegie family in Duck, North Carolina, and I think we can officially say we have a tradition going!

Returning families are always fun because everyone already knows what to expect. We can get the family portraits everyone wants, but we also have time to loosen things up and concentrate on the individual personalities that make each family unique.

The Carnegie girls were fantastic in front of the camera. We photographed them together, gave each of them some time for individual portraits, and of course made sure Mom and Dad got their own photographs too. Those individual images are something I really enjoy adding to an OBX family photography session. The kids change so much from one summer to the next, and those portraits become a great way to watch them grow.

We started among the sand dunes before heading down toward the ocean, where the evening light in Duck gave us a beautiful backdrop. Their blues and whites looked perfect against the warm sand, sea oats, and softer colors along the water.

There is something special about turning an annual Outer Banks vacation into a photographic record of your family. A year goes by, the kids get a little taller, everyone changes just a bit, and then we meet back on the beach and do it all over again.

I'm already looking forward to seeing what year three brings for the Carnegie family!
