The Higgins Family met me on the north end of Duck for their Outer Banks family session. We had a total of 15 people, including grandparents, three adult children with their spouses, and seven grandkids. The group was full of energy, laughter, and beachy barefoot joy.
Because of the newborn, we scheduled the session a little earlier than usual. Thankfully, the heat was much more forgiving than the week before, and everyone stayed cool and happy. The soft breeze off the ocean helped too. From the very first photo to the final group hug, the Higgins family made it clear that this beach vacation was about more than just sun and sand, it was about connection.
Photographing large family groups like this in the Outer Banks is always a fun challenge. There’s something really special about watching grandparents with their grandkids on the sand, or seeing siblings laugh together while waves roll in behind them. The Higgins family had all of that and more.
This session reminded me why I love being a family photographer here in Duck. Whether it’s the perfect light, the soft dunes, or the way the ocean seems to bring people together, these are the moments worth capturing.
