The Anderson Family - Golden Hour Family Photography in Corolla

There is nothing better than ending a busy day with a beautiful golden hour family photography session on the beaches of Corolla. The Anderson family returned for another year of Outer Banks family photos, and after photographing two sessions earlier that day, this one was the perfect way to finish the evening.

The weather had been keeping us on our toes all afternoon. Rain had moved through the area, leaving the beach with beautifully dramatic skies and plenty of wet sand. While sitting poses were mostly off the table, we made the most of the conditions by creating a variety of standing portraits throughout the session.

With 15 family members together, there were plenty of combinations to photograph. We captured the entire family, individual families, grandparents with their grandchildren, siblings, cousins, and plenty of fun portraits that showed off everyone's personality. One of my favorite moments came when all of the grandchildren gathered around Grandma and Grandpa for a giant group hug. It was one of those genuine moments that can't be planned and quickly became one of my favorite photographs from the evening.

The older cousins also had plenty of fun together. Between the playful group portraits and the laughs that happened in between poses, it was easy to see how much this family enjoys spending time together during their annual Outer Banks vacation. Those natural moments often become the photographs families treasure the most.

As the evening continued, the clouds began reflecting the warm light from the setting sun, giving us the soft colors that photographers love along the Corolla shoreline. Even though the rain changed a few of our plans, it rewarded us with beautiful light and an unforgettable backdrop.
