The Jordan Family - Welcoming a New Baby Girl in Corolla

There is something special about photographing a family during a season of change, and this year's session with the Jordan family was exactly that. We met on the beaches of Corolla, North Carolina, just a couple of months after they welcomed a beautiful new baby girl into the family.

As anyone who has vacationed on the Outer Banks knows, summer weather can change in an instant. Throughout the evening we found ourselves keeping one eye on the family and the other on the sky as rain clouds drifted around us. Thankfully, the showers held off just long enough for us to capture everything they had hoped for.

With nine family members together, we photographed grandparents, parents, siblings, couples, and of course plenty of portraits featuring the newest member of the family. She quickly became the star of the evening with her bright smiles and curious expressions. One of my favorite moments came while she was resting on her dad's shoulder, looking straight into the camera with a grin that made everyone laugh.

I always enjoy creating portraits of each individual family as well as the larger group. Those smaller moments often become just as meaningful over the years because they capture each relationship exactly as it is today. Whether it was a quiet portrait of a young couple, grandparents proudly holding their newest granddaughter, or everyone gathered together on the beach, every photograph tells another piece of their family's story.

The weather may have kept us guessing, but it also gave us dramatic skies that added a unique look to the evening. Sometimes the best backdrop isn't a perfect blue sky. The textured clouds over the Atlantic created a beautiful coastal atmosphere that was unmistakably Corolla.
