One of the greatest blessings of photographing families on the Outer Banks is watching generations come together. The Capone family returned to Corolla, NC this summer for another unforgettable vacation, and I was honored to capture another chapter of their family's story.
With more than twenty family members spanning multiple generations, this session was filled with everything that makes Outer Banks family photography so meaningful. Grandparents, adult children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even exciting news about a growing family all came together to celebrate their time on the beach.
Because several family members have mobility challenges, we began the evening on the spacious back deck of their oceanfront home. The elevated view overlooking the Atlantic gave us a beautiful backdrop while allowing everyone to comfortably gather for the large family portraits without the added challenge of navigating the sand. It's one of the reasons I always encourage families to tailor their session around what works best for everyone. Great photographs should never come at the expense of comfort.
Once we had finished the full family portraits, those who wanted to continued down to the beach for the rest of the session. Corolla's beautiful dunes and soft evening light created the perfect setting for each individual family to have their own portraits while still keeping the relaxed pace of a vacation evening.
One of my favorite moments came when one of the young families shared some wonderful news. Their little girl proudly helped reveal ultrasound photos announcing that she will soon be welcoming a new baby brother or sister into the family. Those are the kinds of moments that make family photography so special. Years from now, these photographs won't simply remind them of a beach vacation. They'll remind them of the season when their family was preparing to grow once again.
Throughout the evening we captured everything from classic multi-generational portraits to playful interactions between siblings, grandparents with grandchildren, and individual family groups. Every family brought their own personality, laughter, and traditions to the session, making it a joy to photograph from beginning to end.
Thank you again to the Capone family for trusting me to document another year of memories together here in Corolla. It is always a privilege to photograph returning families and watch new stories unfold with each visit to the Outer Banks.
If you're planning a vacation and looking for an Outer Banks family photographer, I'd love to help preserve your family's memories. Whether your group includes grandparents, young children, or several generations gathering together, we'll create a session that works for everyone while capturing the moments you'll treasure for years to come on the beaches of Corolla, Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, and Nags Head.
