The Elam Family – Artistic Portraits on the Beaches of Nags Head
Every now and then, a family session turns into a total creative playground and that’s exactly what happened with the Elam Family. We met up in Nags Head, just north of Jennette’s Pier, for their portrait session, and right from the start, I knew we were in for something special.
This awesome crew included two parents, four older kids (think high schoolish age), and a few of their friends, nine people in total. Everyone showed up ready to have fun and totally down to be in front of the camera. That kind of energy makes all the difference and gave me the freedom to really lean into the more artistic side of my work.
Bonus: Dad is an amateur photographer, which meant we got to talk cameras, gear, and creative approach. It’s always great connecting with someone who’s just as passionate about photography as I am.
The Outer Banks delivered again with soft light, a gentle breeze, and that signature summer glow that makes beach sessions so memorable. The Elams made it all easy, laughing, posing, and letting me capture the joy and connection that made this session a total blast.
Thanks again, Elam Family! You were an absolute highlight of the week.
