The Evans Family - Three Generations and Two Little Explorers in Southern Shores

There is something special about photographing multiple generations together at the beach. The Evans family brought three generations to Southern Shores for a beautiful golden hour family photography session, and it was the perfect evening to celebrate time together on the Outer Banks.

We met just after 7:15 PM, when the soft evening light had settled over the dunes and beach. Golden hour is always my favorite time to photograph families, and Southern Shores never disappoints. The warm light, sea oats, and quiet stretch of beach created the perfect backdrop for portraits that feel timeless.

This family of seven included proud grandparents, mom and dad, and two energetic little boys with their big brother. Watching the grandparents interact with their grandsons was one of the highlights of the evening. There is a different kind of joy when grandparents are surrounded by grandchildren, and those moments always make some of my favorite photographs.

The youngest member of the family was full of personality. Like most toddlers, he had his own schedule and his own opinions about being photographed! One minute he was flashing the biggest smile, and the next he was letting everyone know he'd had enough. Those little ups and downs are all part of photographing young children, and honestly, they often become some of the memories families laugh about the most years later.

His older brother was the perfect helper, proudly posing with him and making him smile whenever he could. Those brother portraits are some of my favorites from the evening because they capture the relationship they'll have long after they're both grown.

As the sun dipped lower, we finished with a few relaxed moments by the ocean. One of my favorite images from the session wasn't even a posed portrait. While the grandparents stood watching, mom and dad shared a spontaneous kiss on the shoreline as the boys looked on. It was one of those genuine family moments that can't be planned, only appreciated when it happens.

Thank you, Evans family, for trusting me to capture another chapter of your family's story. I hope these photographs always remind you of this beautiful evening together in Southern Shores and the memories you made on the Outer Banks.
