Domozych Family - Corolla Family Photography on the Outer Banks

There are some evenings on the Outer Banks that remind me why family vacations are so special. The Domozych family gathered in Corolla for their annual beach portraits, bringing together fourteen family members for an evening that was filled with laughter, hugs, and plenty of memorable moments.

Even though it was one of those hot July evenings where the humidity reminds you you're at the beach, a blanket of clouds rolled in and gave us beautiful soft light throughout the session. The overcast sky created the perfect backdrop for natural smiles, vibrant colors, and portraits that feel relaxed instead of overly posed.

With fourteen people spanning multiple generations, there is never a dull moment. Grandparents enjoyed having everyone together, parents chased little feet through the sand, teenagers humored me with a few poses before quickly realizing they were actually having fun, and the youngest members of the family made sure everyone stayed smiling.

One of my favorite parts of this session was how willing everyone was to embrace the experience. We captured the traditional family portrait that every large family wants, but we also spent time creating smaller family groupings, individual portraits, sibling photographs, couples portraits, and even a few dramatic images along the shoreline. Those quieter moments between family members often become some of the most meaningful photographs in the gallery.

The youngest grandson definitely stole the show more than once. Whether he was flashing an enormous grin while being tossed into the air or proudly carrying his little toy car down the beach, he reminded everyone that the best moments are usually the unscripted ones.

As we wrapped up the evening, we gathered everyone together one final time to face the Atlantic Ocean. Fourteen people standing shoulder to shoulder, looking out over the water, was the perfect way to end a wonderful evening in Corolla. It's a simple image, but one that tells the story of a family enjoying time together on the Outer Banks.

These are the sessions I love most. Vacations eventually end, children grow up, and families spread back across the country. Having photographs that preserve this season of life becomes more valuable with every passing year.

If you're planning an Outer Banks family vacation and would like to capture your own family's memories, I'd love to help. Whether you're staying in Corolla, Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, or Nags Head, we'll create timeless beach portraits that your family will enjoy for generations.
