The Terrell Family – Returning to Corolla for Another Outer Banks Family

One of my favorite things about being an Outer Banks family photographer is getting to photograph the same families over the years. The Terrell family is one of those families I have had the pleasure of seeing in front of my camera multiple times, and it is always fun to see how much the kids have grown since our last session.

For this year's session, we met on the beach in Corolla, where we had beautiful soft evening light and calm ocean conditions. We photographed the whole group together, the grandparents with their grandkids, Mom and Dad with the kids, and of course plenty of photographs of the kids themselves.

And we couldn't leave out the four-legged member of the family. Their Australian Shepherd was absolutely made for photographs with those blue eyes and definitely deserved a portrait of his own.

One of the things I enjoy about returning families is that everyone already knows what to expect. We can get the traditional portraits that parents and grandparents want, then loosen things up and let personalities take over. The photo of the kids wrestling with each other may tell you just as much about this stage of their lives as the perfectly posed portrait beside it.

That's really what I want an Outer Banks family photography session to accomplish. I want families to leave with the beautiful group portrait that belongs on the wall, but I also want photographs that remind them what their family actually felt like at this particular moment in time.

It was great having the Terrell family back in front of my camera again, and Corolla gave us another beautiful Outer Banks evening to add to their collection.
