The Yost Family – Sunset Dunes and Sandbar Smiles in Nags Head
Fourteen strong and full of energy, the Yost family brought such a fun vibe to our evening session in Nags Head. We met up at their oceanfront rental and kicked things off in the dunes just behind the house. The light was soft, the breeze was gentle, and everyone was ready to laugh and have a good time, which always makes my job that much easier.
After some great shots up in the dunes, we made our way down to the water where the high tide had carved out a temporary sandbar. With just a quick hop across a narrow channel, we found ourselves on a wide stretch of untouched sand that gave us the perfect setting for some beautifully lit standing portraits. The sky reflected off the wet sand, adding an extra bit of sparkle to the scene.
Photographing big families like the Yosts is always a blast. There’s a rhythm to it, lots of combinations, lots of movement, and lots of real moments in between the poses. They kept things lighthearted and full of personality, which shines through in every frame.
Nags Head continues to be one of my favorite places to shoot, quiet enough to feel like your own little stretch of paradise, but still packed with visual variety. If your family is planning a trip to the Outer Banks, I’d love to help capture a session as special as this one.
