I always enjoy meeting a new family for the first time, and the Lenuik Mann family brought a great group to the beach in Nags Head for their first session with me.
With 11 people and three individual family groups, we had plenty of combinations to work through. We started with the entire family together in the sand dunes, then broke everyone into their smaller families and different groups of kids. Sessions like this are a great opportunity to get the big family portrait everyone wants while also creating photographs that each individual family can take home.
The kids were a lot of fun, and once we had the traditional photographs covered, there was plenty of room for personality. Some of my favorite images from an Outer Banks family photography session often happen when everyone relaxes a little and we move away from simply standing and smiling. Those expressions and interactions are usually the photographs that become even more meaningful as the years go by.
We also took advantage of the session to create a few individual portraits. With older kids in the group, an Outer Banks beach vacation can be a perfect chance to update portraits while everyone is already together.
The bright blue ocean, classic Nags Head sand dunes and a family dressed in shades of blue and white gave this session a great coastal look. It was a beautiful afternoon on the Outer Banks, and I really enjoyed getting to know the Lenuik Mann family and documenting their time together in Nags Head.
