One of the things I love most about photographing families on the Outer Banks is watching a simple evening on the beach turn into memories that will last for years. That was exactly the case with the Liberatore family during their beautiful golden hour session in Kitty Hawk.
This wonderful family of four met me just before sunset, when the light begins to soften and the beaches of Kitty Hawk seem to glow. Golden hour is my favorite time for family photography because it creates warm, natural light that flatters everyone while allowing the beautiful colors of the Outer Banks to shine through.
Their son and daughter were an absolute joy to photograph. From sweet sibling hugs to plenty of genuine smiles, they made my job incredibly easy. One of my favorite moments came while I was photographing Mom and Dad together. The kids couldn't help but react to all the attention their parents were giving each other, and their expressions made for one of the funniest candid moments of the evening. Sometimes the unexpected photos become everyone's favorites.
I always encourage families to spend a little time simply enjoying each other during a session. Those relaxed moments often produce the most natural smiles, and the Liberatore family embraced that idea perfectly. Whether we were photographing everyone together, capturing individual portraits of the kids, or taking a few quiet moments for Mom and Dad, the evening never felt rushed. It simply felt like a family enjoying their vacation together on the beach.
Kitty Hawk offers such a beautiful backdrop for Outer Banks family photography. The rolling dunes, sea oats, and wide sandy beaches create timeless portraits without distracting from what matters most: the people you're with.
Thank you, Liberatore family, for trusting me to capture another chapter of your family's story. It was a pleasure spending the evening with all of you, and I hope these photographs bring you right back to your Outer Banks vacation every time you see them.
