The Harper Family gathered in Duck this summer for a wonderful multi-generational family photography session on the Outer Banks. With grandparents, adult children, grandchildren, and even a beloved grand-pup joining the fun, this session was filled with laughter, energy, and plenty of memorable moments.
One of the biggest considerations for this session was timing. While I typically photograph families during the last hour before sunset, we decided to meet a little earlier in the evening. With several young children and a baby in the group, an earlier start allowed everyone to be rested, happy, and ready to enjoy their time together. Sometimes the best family photos come from choosing the schedule that works best for the family rather than chasing the very last bit of sunlight.
The grandchildren quickly became the stars of the evening. From big smiles and playful hugs to curious expressions from the youngest family member, every child brought their own personality to the session. The grandparents were surrounded by grandchildren throughout much of the evening, creating some of my favorite images of the day. It was easy to see how much joy these little ones bring to the entire family.
Of course, the family dog was happy to be included as well. I always enjoy when families bring their four-legged family members to a session. They may not always follow directions, but they add plenty of personality and often become a favorite part of the experience.
Duck provides one of the most beautiful settings for Outer Banks family photography. The rolling dunes, sea oats, and wide sandy beaches created a perfect backdrop for this gathering. With multiple generations together and several young children exploring the beach, there was never a shortage of genuine smiles and natural moments.
Family vacations on the Outer Banks often become some of the few opportunities each year for everyone to be together in one place. Capturing those connections between grandparents, parents, children, grandchildren, and even pets is what makes these sessions so meaningful. The Harper Family left with a collection of images celebrating not only where they are today, but the memories they created together during their time in Duck.
