Murphy Flynn Family – Corolla Family Photography

One of the best parts of being an Outer Banks family photographer is getting to watch families grow over the years. The Murphy Flynn Family is one of those families that I have had the privilege of photographing again and again during their vacations in Corolla, and every year brings something new.

What started years ago as a family session has become a tradition, and it has been fun watching the children grow from year to year. Looking through their photographs tells the story of a family that continues to grow, change, and create memories together on the beaches of the Outer Banks.

This year's session in Corolla brought together multiple generations for another beautiful evening by the ocean. Grandparents, parents, teenagers, and younger children all gathered on the beach, creating the perfect mix of personalities and energy. One moment everyone was smiling perfectly for a formal portrait, and the next they were laughing, teasing one another, and creating the candid moments that often become family favorites.

One thing I always enjoy about photographing larger family groups is seeing the relationships between generations. The grandparents were surrounded by grandchildren throughout the evening, and it was easy to see the strong connections that have been built over many years together. Those relationships are often the most meaningful photographs from a session because they capture something far more important than a smile for the camera.

The younger children kept everyone entertained with their endless energy, while the older grandchildren brought plenty of personality and humor to the session. Watching cousins interact is always one of my favorite parts of a family photography session because their genuine friendships and playful connections create photographs that cannot be posed.

Corolla continues to provide one of the most beautiful backdrops for family photography on the Outer Banks. The soft dunes, sea oats, and wide sandy beaches gave us plenty of opportunities to create a variety of portraits while still keeping the focus on the people who matter most.

Family photographs become more valuable with every passing year. They preserve a moment in time that can never be recreated. Looking back through the Murphy Flynn Family's collection over the years is a reminder of just how quickly children grow and how important it is to document these seasons of life while we can. I am already looking forward to seeing what next year's chapter brings.
