The Hall Family - A 20th Anniversary Celebration on the Outer Banks

Some photo sessions are about documenting a vacation. Others celebrate a milestone that deserves to be remembered for years to come. The Hall family session was one of those special evenings as we celebrated 20 years of marriage on the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina.

Originally, we had planned to meet on Tuesday, but Mother Nature had other ideas. After rain forced us to reschedule, Friday rewarded us with one of those unforgettable evenings that reminds me why flexibility is so important for Outer Banks family photography. The clouds created a dramatic sky, the ocean was calm, and the soft light was perfect for portraits.

For this anniversary session, we met at the Lillian Street Beach Access in Corolla. It isn't always the first location people think of, but it was exactly the right choice. Because mobility had become difficult and walking through deep sand would have been painful, we chose this access for its wide boardwalk and flat, firm stretch of beach leading to the water. Sometimes the best location isn't the most famous one. It's the one that allows my clients to relax and simply enjoy being together.

That is exactly what happened.

Rather than rushing from pose to pose, we took our time. We wandered slowly down the beach hand in hand, laughed together, and captured the quiet moments that tell the story of two people who have spent two decades building a life together. Those are often my favorite images because they aren't just portraits, they're memories.

One of my favorite photographs from the evening came when they paused for a kiss, proudly showing off the wedding ring that represents twenty years of commitment. Another favorite was simply watching them walk away together toward the horizon, hand in hand, with the dramatic sky stretching overhead. It perfectly captured the idea that their journey is still continuing.

The weather couldn't have been scripted any better. The overcast sky provided beautiful, flattering light, while the clouds added depth and emotion to every image without ever taking attention away from the couple themselves.
