The Lowry Family - Three Generations Together at Coquina Beach in Nags Head

There is something especially meaningful about welcoming returning families back to the beach each summer. I had the pleasure of photographing the Lowry family again during their Outer Banks vacation, and this year we met at beautiful Coquina Beach in Nags Head for another evening filled with laughter, hugs, and memories spanning three generations.

This session brought together Grandma, her two daughters and their husbands, along with four energetic grandchildren. With nine family members, there were plenty of combinations to photograph, from the entire extended family to each individual family, grandparents with the grandchildren, cousins, siblings, and everything in between. One of the things I enjoy most about photographing returning families is seeing how much everyone has grown from one visit to the next.

One special addition to this year's session was spending a little extra time with the oldest granddaughter for a series of senior portraits. Since everyone was already dressed for family photos and the evening light was absolutely beautiful, it was the perfect opportunity to celebrate this exciting milestone. The soft golden light at Coquina Beach created a timeless backdrop for portraits she'll be able to look back on for years to come.

The younger grandchildren kept everyone smiling throughout the evening. Whether it was showing off a favorite hat, wrapping Grandma in hugs, or simply enjoying time together on the beach, those genuine moments are often the ones families treasure the most. Those little interactions help tell the story of a family far better than any posed photograph ever could.

As the sun settled lower over the Outer Banks, the dunes glowed with warm evening light, giving us the perfect finish to a wonderful session. We even created a dramatic silhouette portrait to end the evening, adding a little artistic touch to an already memorable collection of photographs.

Thank you again, Lowry family, for trusting me to photograph your family once more. It is always an honor when families return year after year, and I truly appreciate the opportunity to document these seasons of life as your family continues to grow. I hope these photographs become treasured reminders of another wonderful vacation together on the Outer Banks.

If you're planning an Outer Banks family photography session or are looking for an OBX family photographer, I'd love to help preserve your vacation memories. I photograph families, seniors, couples, and extended families throughout Nags Head, Coquina Beach, Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk, Southern Shores, Duck, Corolla, and across the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina. Whether you're celebrating a family vacation, updating senior portraits, or gathering multiple generations together, I'd be honored to create timeless beach portraits you'll treasure for years to come.
