The Monterosso Family – Fourteen Years of Memories in Corolla

Some family sessions are about meeting new clients. Others are all about catching up with old friends. The Monterosso Family definitely falls into the second category.

This year marked approximately fourteen years of photographing the Monterosso Family, and every time we get together it reminds me just how fortunate I am to do what I do. Our story actually began long before family portraits on the beach. I photographed their wedding years ago, and since then I've had the privilege of watching their family grow and change through the seasons of life.

For this year's session, we met at their beach house in Corolla during magic hour. The soft evening light and quiet beaches of the Outer Banks created the perfect setting for another chapter in a story we've been documenting for more than a decade.

One of the things I enjoy most about photographing returning families is seeing how much changes from year to year while somehow everything still feels familiar. The kids have grown taller, personalities continue to develop, and each year brings new milestones and memories. Looking back through previous sessions, it's amazing to see just how quickly time passes.

The evening was relaxed from the moment we started. We captured a variety of family portraits, individual photographs of the kids, and some fun candid moments that perfectly reflected their personalities. One of my favorite parts of the session was watching everyone interact naturally. After fourteen years together in front of my camera, there is a comfort level that allows everyone to simply enjoy being together.

As the sun dropped lower and the soft light spread across the beach, we finished the session with some classic Corolla family portraits overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. These are the photographs that will become even more meaningful in the years ahead as the family continues to grow.

Sessions like this are a reminder that family photography is about more than creating beautiful images. It is about preserving a family's story over time. Being invited back year after year is one of the greatest compliments I can receive as a photographer, and I am incredibly grateful to the Monterosso Family for allowing me to continue documenting their journey.

I already look forward to seeing what year fifteen brings.
