The Patula Family – A New Baby on the Beaches of Corolla

There is something pretty special about photographing a family on their first Outer Banks session with me, but when they bring along a brand new baby, it gets even better.

I met the Patula family in Corolla for an evening family photography session with Mom, Dad, their son, and the newest addition to the family, their baby girl. She was absolutely adorable and, judging by that smile, seemed perfectly happy with her first modeling job on the beach.

We had one of those beautiful Corolla evenings where the colors stayed soft and the clouds gave us a gorgeous backdrop over the ocean. We were able to photograph the entire family together, give Mom and Dad each some individual time with the kids, and of course make plenty of portraits of the two siblings together. Big brother did a great job holding his little sister, even when she decided that sitting still wasn't nearly as interesting as showing off her toes!

One of my favorite things about photographing families with a new baby is making sure Mom and Dad don't disappear from the story. Along with the family photographs, I always like creating individual portraits of the parents and a few photographs of just the two of them. These years go by incredibly fast, and someday those portraits will mean just as much to their children as the photographs of the kids themselves.

And naturally, the newest member of the Patula family got plenty of time in front of the camera. Between the big blue eyes, that enormous bow, and a collection of fantastic little expressions, she made my job pretty easy.

For their first session with me, the Patula family certainly gave me a fun one. A beautiful evening, a sweet family, a brand new baby, and the beaches of Corolla are a pretty great combination for an Outer Banks family photography session.
